If you were to look at the phones released under €250 within the last year, you would likely notice that the competition is quite fierce. With company’s such as Xiaomi, Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung, and a few others, you could even say that this competition is much more exciting than the current flagship smartphone race. Xiaomi is back at it again to try and offer the best sub-€250 experience you can find thanks to the Redmi Note 10 5G. But this phone is in a little bit of an awkward spot given what is offered and how it stacks up against other options at the same price point. Does Xiaomi do enough with one of its latest handsets to stand apart from the competition? Or is this just another phone to have in its lineup?Redmi Note 10 5G Specs Display IPS LCD / 2400 x 1080 / 90Hz refresh rate Processor MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G RAM 4GB / 6GB Storage 64GB / 128GB Front Camera 8MP Rear Cameras 48MP main / 2MP macro / 2MP depth Battery 5,000mAh / 18W Fast Charging Dimensions x x Weight 190g Misc Side-mounted fingerprint scanner / Headphone Jack / NFC / Infrared Sensor Software MIUI 12 based on Android 11 Redmi Note 10 5G Design & DisplayOut of the box, you’re not going to really notice anything “unique” about the Redmi Note 10 5G, but that’s kind of the point. It’s your standard combination of plastic and glass, with a nice matte finish on the back. This is soft to the touch and does a pretty good job at withstanding fingerprints and oils from your hands compared to the glossy finishes found on most phones nowadays. In the box, you’ll find the charging brick, charging cable, regulatory paperwork, along with a clear TPU case for those who want some the edges of the Redmi Note 10 5G, you’ll find the power button along with the volume rocker on the right side. The power button also doubles as a fingerprint scanner which is a nice addition and makes it so you can unlock your phone faster than just entering a pin or trying to put your finger on the right spot in another place. On the top, you’ll find a headphone jack, along with an infrared sensor on the right side so you can control your TV and/or set-top box. Moving to the bottom, we have the USB-C charging port flanked by the mono-speaker and microphone. All of this is pretty standard, as it seems that budget phones are going to carry the headphone jack torch since they’ve largely been removed from flagship you turn on the Redmi Note 10 5G, you’ll be greeted with a pretty basic IPS LCD display, that has decent color accuracy but definitely isn’t as vibrant as other options. But the phone does have a hidden feature that you’ll actually have to turn on, and that’s the 90Hz refresh rate. With the exception of a handful of devices, a 90Hz refresh rate is becoming the new industry standard across, moving away from the 60Hz that we’ve had for years now. It’s really great to see improvements like this arrive on just about every Android phone, and isn’t just reserved for mid-range or flagship what helps make this display stand out compared to other devices with faster refresh rates is that it’s actually an adaptive refresh rate. This means that the display automatically adjusts between the 60Hz standard and 90Hz. Xiaomi also promises a future update will slow things down even further, as it will add 30Hz to the mix. With a variable refresh rate, you’re able to enjoy faster refresh rates while doom-scrolling Twitter or playing games, but just reading an article or a book will slow things pretty obvious when you go from a phone like the Z Fold 2 or OnePlus 9 and switch to a device using a lower refresh rate. Needless to say, I quickly jumped into the settings and enabled a faster refresh rate. But I was greeted with a stuttery mess that made me feel like my eyes were trying to play tricks on me. Moving between menus, opening and using different apps, and just interacting with the phone made me feel like something was that maybe there was just a bug in the system, I factory reset the Note 10 5G hoping that would clear something up. Unfortunately, nothing changed even on the second go-’round. It wasn’t until Xiaomi pushed one of its latest updates to the phone that the problems were remedied, but even then, it still doesn’t feel as smooth as other phones with 90Hz enabled. It doesn’t even feel as smooth as my iPhone 12 Pro with its 60Hz panel. Perhaps Xiaomi is still trying to dial in the variable refresh rate with this display panel, but we’re hoping that it gets fixed sooner rather than Note 10 5G Performance & Battery LifeMediaTek is making a big push to try and cut into the stranglehold that Qualcomm has had on smartphones over the last decade. The company’s latest series of Dimensity processors offer similar, if not improved, performance when compared to Snapdragon-powered devices at the same price point. With the Redmi Note 10 5G, we have the MediaTek Dimensity 700, which not only helps keep the cost of phones low but also adds the 5G connectivity that many folks are looking how does the Dimensity 700 actually stand up in day-to-day use? I was pleasantly surprised to confirm that I ran into no noticeable issues, other than the refresh rate problems. The Redmi Note 10 5G was able to withstand multi-tasking, quickly switching back and forth between apps, and enjoying some games when I actually had time to sink into Dead Cells or whatever else tickled my fancy that you would expect, Xiaomi included MIUI 12 with the Redmi Note 10 5G, which is based on Android 11. In true MIUI fashion, it feels like a mashup of Android and iOS, especially if you enable the Control Center which brings down your quick toggles when swiping down from the right side of the status bar. It’s definitely “less in your face” compared to the MIUI of the old days, while providing enough launcher and UI tweaks to appease the customizers out biggest problem I have is the fact that there are far too many pre-installed apps and games to be found. Starting it up for the first time, and you’ll see a bunch of bloatware like Block Puzzle Guardian, Dust Settle, Bubble Shooter, and even things like Facebook and LinkedIn pre-installed. I thought we had moved away from the days of phone makers installing a bunch of crapware onto phones, but it seems that’s not the case. Of course, you can just go through and uninstall the apps and games you don’t want, but it shouldn’t be something you have to worry not really too much to write home about when it comes to the battery life on the Redmi Note 10 5G, other than the fact that it’s pretty great. The 5,000mAh cell provides at least a day of power, usually going into the next day depending on what you’re using your phone. Instead, our biggest gripe is the 18W charging speeds which is the slowest offered by a Redmi Note 10 phone. On one hand, we see Xiaomi pushing the limits of what smartphones can handle in terms of charging speeds, but on the other, it throws in a snails-pace charging speed for the Note 10 5G. With a battery as big as this one, we wish that Xiaomi would push the envelope even a little bit Note 10 5G CamerasOne area where we continue to see these budget phones miss the mark is in the camera department. The trend continues with the Redmi Note 10 5G and its “triple camera” array. Sure, there are three sensors on the back, headlined by the same 48MP lens that’s found on the non-5G version of the Redmi Note 10. But you also have the “pleasure” of using a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. But as we continue to see time and time again, these additional lenses are really nothing more than spec-sheet stuffers and aren’t actually broad daylight, with the sun shining, you’ll get some pretty good-looking pictures. The 48MP lens is serviceable by most accounts and can handle almost everything you need it to, provided that you have enough light. But as soon as you take away that good lighting, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. It’s like the phones of the old days where the cameras were an afterthought and weren’t actually usable in any conditions other than with great lighting around you. We wish this trend would come to a close, but sadly, it’s unlikely to do so because it’s all about marketing, and less about providing a solid camera ThoughtsThe Redmi Note 10 5G is somewhat intriguing due to its 5G connectivity and solid performance. The variable refresh rate is a nice touch, even if you take out my experiences with stutters, and the Dimensity 700 can handle most of what you might want to throw at it. Even battery life is going to be great thanks to the combination of the LCD display and the massive 5,000mAh battery. But you’re going to instantly be smacked with disappointment when it comes time to re-charge your makes this such a difficult phone to recommend is purely thanks to Xiaomi. The company’s Poco M3 Pro is priced even lower, features practically the same spec sheet, and looks almost identical. This includes the 5,000mAh battery, Dimensity 700 SoC, and the same triple camera array. There’s even a 90Hz refresh rate mode on the M3 Pro, adding insult to injury. Truthfully, the only reason we would really recommend grabbing the Redmi Note 10 5G over the M3 Pro is if you can’t get your hands on the Poco option. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G Rating star_fullstar_fullstar_fullstar_50star_empty / 5 The Good Display is solid with a 90Hz refresh rate Great battery life 5G connectivity IR blaster is a nice touch MIUI 12 is polished The Bad Unable to record 4K video No ultrawide camera sensor Single speaker is underwhelming The Bottom Line There are a few things to like when it comes to the Redmi Note 10 5G, but once you start looking at the competition, even within Xiaomi’s own lineup, it’s easy to see why you might be better off looking elsewhere for a 5G-connected device.
TheRedmi Note 10 5G offers a high-res primary camera. It uses a 48MP OmniVision OV48B 1/2" sensor with 0.8µm pixels, Quad-Bayer filter and PDAF. The lens is 26mm f/1.8. Golden boy. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G boasts a lot of equipment. The Snapdragon 695 5G confers decent performance on the the and its 120 Hz AMOLED display manages over 1000 nits of brightness. Not to mention the 108 MP camera and 67-watt fast charging. Our review reveals whether the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has the potential to become a mid-range champion. Xiaomi's Redmi series enjoys widespread popularity because it offers entry-level and mid-range smartphones with a good price-performance ratio. Features such as an AMOLED screen and 120 Hz refresh rate are not uncommon. Both are available in our review candidate, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. At around US$ 300 depending on the exact configuration, the device costs just as much as last year's Redmi Note 10 Pro, but still has a few improvements. These include the faster SoC, 5G, and a higher charging speed. Possible Competitors in Comparison Case - Angular glass case with wave opticsXiaomi offers the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G in the case colors Graphite Gray black, Polar White white and Atlantic Blue blue. The glass back cover is barely susceptible to fingerprints, while the blue color variant dazzles with its chic light effects. Depending on the viewing angle, the reflections look like water movements, which is particularly noticeable in bright ambient light. The Xiaomi Poco X4 Pro 5G, for example, offers similar color effects on its back cover. The camera module, including the 108 MP main camera, protrudes almost 4 millimeters from the backcover, causing the smartphone to wobble back and forth quite a bit on the table. Even the included protective cover cannot completely prevent this. The AMOLED screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, and a protective film is attached to the screen ex factory. At a height of millimeters, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is just as slim as the Redmi Note 10 Pro, but uses a much flatter and more angular design, ensuring a secure grip when held. At 202 grams, however, the smartphone is not exactly light. The frame of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is made of plastic and, together with the glass back and AMOLED panel, forms a solid unit that feels high-quality all around. The same applies to the buttons, including the power button with its integrated fingerprint sensor, which sit firmly in the frame. Thanks to IP53 certification, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is dust- and water resistant, but should not go for a swim. The internal storage can be expanded via microSD card, which can be up to 1 TB in size. The OTG-enabled USB port of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G runs at USB speed. One of the two speakers the second one on the top and the SIM slot are also located on the bottom. Either two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and a microSD card can be inserted. In addition to NFC and Bluetooth each configuration also includes a mm headphone jack, an infrared transmitter, and a fingerprint sensor in the power button. An Always On function is also included. Thanks to the support of DRM Widevine L1, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is also able to play streams in HD quality. Communications & GNSS - 5G, WiFi 5 & good GPSThe Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G supports all 4G and 5G frequencies that are important for Europe, so there should hardly be any reception problems in the EU region. Regarding WLAN, the Xiaomi smartphone uses WiFi 5 to establish connections with nearby routers. In tandem with our Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 reference router, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G achieves WLAN transfer rates of around 350 MBit/s on average in both the send and receive directions, which is completely acceptable for this price range. This works accurately up to 3 meters both indoors and outdoors under testing and only takes a few seconds each. As our bike ride shows, the Xiaomi phone also provides accurate localization data in real-world conditions. The smartphone performs almost as well as the Garmin Venu2 fitness watch, which was used for direct comparison. It occasionally makes one or two small detours in the route, but the overall accuracy is completely sufficient for navigation & Voice QualityThe voice quality of the Xiaomi smartphone is very good. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G reproduces voices very clearly even in hands-free mode, and the noise suppression still works reliably even in loud environments. There was no background noise or any other abnormalities during our test calls to 4G and 5G networks. The radiation values of W/kg head SAR and SAR W/kg body SAR are comparatively low. Xiaomi's smartphone can either accommodate two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and one microSD card. The 108 MP main camera f/ is still based on the Samsung HM2, which takes 12 MP photos using 9-in-1 pixel binning. There is also a 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 118° field of view f/ and a 16 MP selfie camera f/ The latter delivers good image quality and takes coherent portrait shots. Xiaomi has removed the 5 MP macro camera and the 2 MP depth sensor of the Redmi Note 10 Pro from our review sample. Instead of 4 cameras, there are only three in the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G The aforementioned main and ultra-wide-angle cameras are joined by a 2 MP macro camera f/ Photos taken with the main camera in optimal lighting conditions look really good. The pictures are pleasing thanks to natural-looking colors, high image sharpness and a good dynamic range. The camera software can still get a lot out of the subjects in weaker ambient light. However, night shots are not the camera's forte. The setup with the NotebookCheck mascot is dark and blurry. Despite its pixel reserves, it also has a hard time with zoom shots. In the test photo, image details blur into a pixel mush at 5x magnification. The 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera does a decent job. However, you have to get used to the rather gaudy colors and a sharpness that clearly decreases towards the edges of the photo. Videos with the main, ultra-wide-angle and selfie cameras are electronically stabilized, but are limited to Full HD quality and 30 FPS. This is due to the SoC, because the Snapdragon 695 5G, unlike the Snapdragon 732G in the Redmi Note 10 Pro, does not support 4K videos, which were still possible in the Redmi Note 10 Pro. The manufacturer does not offer special accessories for its smartphone in its online store. A 24-month warranty is provided for the smartphone in Germany. This may differ from region to region, so be sure to check with your supplier before purchasing. Input Devices & Operation - Responsive 120 Hz displayThanks to its refresh rate of 120 Hz, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G can be used smoothly and responds very accurately to inputs. However, the high refresh rate has to be enabled in the display settings first, since the default setting is 60 HZ. The fingerprint sensor of Xiaomi's phone is located in the power button and can easily be reached with the thumb of the right hand and the index and middle fingers of the left hand. Fingerprint unlocking works reliably and very quickly, for the home screen is displayed without any significant delay. Authentication via face recognition delivers a similarly high hit rate and speed as the fingerprint sensor. However, Face Unlock is less secure as a pure software solution and also needs sufficient ambient light to work flawlessly. Display - AMOLED panel up to 1000 nitsSubpixel gridThe Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has a 120 Hz fast AMOLED display. At 2400x1080 FHD+, it offers the same resolution as the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Because the form factor has not changed either, the pixel density remains at 395 PPI, which guarantees a sharp display. You would need a magnifying glass to look for differences in the image parameters. In principle, this is not a disadvantage since the Redmi Note 10 Pro had already made a very good impression with its display under testing. Against a white background, the AMOLED panel of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G shines at an average of 686 cd/m². If you repeat the test in a smaller display area APL18 measurement, the brightness even increases up to 1073 cd/m². Without the brightness sensor, a maximum of 433 cd/m² is possible. The screen still shines at cd/m² in the lowest brightness setting. The AMOLED panel controls its brightness via pulse width modulation. At a screen brightness of 54 percent or lower, the PWM flickering moves in a quite high frequency range of to Hz. At screen brightness levels higher than 54 percent, this is a constant 120 Hz. However, fluctuations in the amplitude course are much lower in this range > 54%, so sensitive users should not be bothered by the PWM flickering. 682cd/m²671cd/m²693cd/m²683cd/m²675cd/m²694cd/m²687cd/m²687cd/m²703cd/m² Distribution of brightnessX-Rite i1Pro 3Maximum 703 cd/m² Nits Average cd/m² Minimum cd/m²Brightness Distribution 95 %Center on Battery 675 cd/m²Contrast ∞1 Black 0 cd/m²ΔE Color Greyscale sRGB Calman 2DGamma Redmi Note 11 Pro 5GAMOLED, 2400x1080, Redmi Note 10 ProOLED, 2400x1080, Moto G82 5GOLED, 2400x1080, Nord CE 2 Lite 5GIPS, 2412x1080, 9 5GIPS, 2412x1080, Galaxy A53AMOLED, 2400x1080, middle675653 -3%635 -6%590 -13%589 -13%718 6%Brightness686651 -5%640 -7%561 -18%561 -18%730 6%Brightness Distribution9598 3%96 1%92 -3%90 -5%92 -3%Black Level * dE 2000 * 8% -128% -296% -233% -25%Colorchecker dE 2000 max. * 26% -96% -165% -115% -8%Greyscale dE 2000 * -6% -182% -318% -247%2 -18% 102% 98% 99% 103% 107% 102%CCT6591 99%6426 101%6970 93%8540 76%8021 81%6545 99%Contrast15531178* ... smaller is better Screen Flickering / PWM Pulse-Width ModulationℹTo dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation PWM . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering flickering / PWM detected HzThe display backlight flickers at Hz Likely utilizing PWM . The frequency of Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any comparison 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19906 minimum 5 - maximum 3846000 Hz was measured. Series of measurements at a fixed zoom level and different brightness settingsIn the display settings, you can choose from three presets, namely "Vivid", "Saturated" and "Standard", for the color scheme. In addition, color temperature can be adjusted. The Xiaomi phone delivers the best display under the "Standard" setting. Colors and gray levels are then very close to the reference colors and the other image parameters are also exemplary. Display Response TimesℹDisplay response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry ghosting.
